The Cool Kids

5/14/2009 Hip-hop duo The Cool Kids definitely know how to bring it for their live shows. Don’t let their laid-back, mild-mannered composition fool you, Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish leave it all on the stage.

As the students quickly poured into the venue, the building was rampant with anticipation for the Cool Kids and headliner Kid Cudi. After a brief DJ set and local opener, the Cool Kids hit the stage and flew through a 45-minute beat-packed party set.

As soon as VIPJ dropped the first beat, Chuck and Mikey were off to do their thing. Talking with the guys before the show, I asked them what we can expect them to bring to their set. The guys looking at eachother, chuckled, and then threw up their hands replying, “We just put on a show, man. It’s gonna be a show and you can decide if you like it.”

For the entirety of their set, the guys cruised the stage in style. Not overzealous, not mundane. These guys have the perfect balance between high-energy and chill. The Cool Kids are a paradox in this sense. As you can see from the shot above, the entire crowd was packed in tight loving every second.

Seeing a bunch of different rap and hip-hop acts this past year like Ludacris and Nelly, the Cool Kids have easily been my favorite. Their music is unique beyond belief and their show was even better. If these guys are coming to your town, lace up those sneakers and hit it.

Special thanks to TCK management for taking setting everything up. If you missed the track-list from the preview, here’s another glimpse at the show you missed out on.
